  • Version 4 is still better!!!!!

    By Pharoah808
5.3 update THIS (5.3) is what people are paying $25/year for??????? FIXED: multiple alarms!!!! BROKEN: -Widget: all I get is “unable to load” -Siri: tried using siri 10 times, 8 failed. Willing to admit I’m using wrong key words, but I have no way of knowing because no documentation!?!?!?!? -View Picker Shortcut bar UNUSABLE! I have 4 blank blue circles in lower right corner on my iPad. -Crashes A LOT Worked with 5.3 for several hours before deleting. Crashed 23 times in different views. I could go on, but it would be pointless. Should be done with informant 4 in another week or so. It was a great 10+ years!! —— In response to developer's response -- "The subscription brings with it much more than just syncing". I respectfully disagree. Look at your descriptions for in-app purchases. The ONLY difference between "own it" / buying and subscribing is the CONNECT BUNDLE. The connect bundle includes mail, weather, and syncing. There are some problems with mail in Informant(!!), but even if "perfectly implemented" mail and weather are hardly essentials to an agenda style app. Don't delude yourself, what people are paying for in a subscription is SYNCING. IMO, syncing is not worth $25 a year! As to your other point, I'm aware that version 4 is the proverbial lame duck. BUT, it works great for the time being, and I will stay with it (not upgrading to iOS 11 if necessary) while I complete work on finding a suitable replacement and transferring my data over. ----- Original review (that developer responded to): And a whole lot LESS EXPENSIVE!!!!! Even if a future 5.xx finally attains usability, I can't justify $25 a year for syncing.
  • Improving... but v4 still better

App is slowly improving since the initial 5.0 release, but still has issues with the user interface, as well as some bugs. So I cannot reccomend it at this time, particularly given the high cost and the move to a subscription-based model. Informant has been my favorite productivity app for 10+ years on multiple platforms - due to its speed and efficiency in handling both events and tasks with due dates (reminders in Apple-speak). The last major release (version 4.x) is still my most used and important app on my iPhone & iPad, and despite some wrinkles here and there I gave it a five star rating. ### iOS USER INTERFACE ISSUES * Time picker - uses swipes instead of numeric keypad (in v 4.x), so is slower and more prone to accidental changes of time * Home screen only displays the next event with a location, NOT the next event * Email - can add starred mail as reminders, but because you can only delete email (not archive it) after creating it & there is no no way to bulk import them, it really is no better than creating reminder from within email app * view picker on main screen (from v 4.x) has been removed so now need 2 taps to select an alternate view; slight improvement with 5.2, which now allows user to add shortcuts for several views to bottom of main screen, BUT the shortcuts change position depending on the current view and shortcuts get replaced with most recently used views, which makes it harder to use than the permanent locations and persistent buttons in 4.x * Watch complication - cannot specify which calendars to use * Watch complication - cannot show location of an event * ___FIXED IN 5.2___ Watch complication - cannot use time travel * ___FIXED IN 5.2___ date picker uses swipes, which is slower than tapping on an actual calendar (in v 4.x) and makes it more difficult to identify future dates (e.g., 3rd Thursday) * ____FIXED IN 5.3___ Triggers - cannot create a trigger from an existing event (which you could for templates in v 4.x); release notes for 5.2 indicate this is now supported but in their blog they say it requires 3D touch which I do not have ; in 5.3 one can swipe event & then have an option to create a trigger ### iOS BUGS * if you turn off all views under view settings, then tap on icon in lower right of screen to change view, the app crashes (so you cannot fix the problem because you cannot access settings, so you have to uninstall & re-install app) * date picker that shows up when reassigning multiple tasks to a new date is partially cut off on iPhone 5s, making it difficult to tap on last day of week * date picker that you access from top of screen in month view is partially cut off on iPhone 5s, making it difficult to tap on last day of week * Today Widget - occasionally indicates “”No items on this date” even if I have some, and is slow to update to show events added in main app * weather - Even with weather switched off for focus view, weather info is visible; possibly fixed in 5.2 or later but no way to tell unless I subscribe (which I won’t even conisder until time picker is fixed) * ___FIXED IN 5.1___ Even though I have dark theme turned off, support conversation view still uses it * ___FIXED IN 5.1___ Tapping on help/tips does nothing * ___FIXED IN 5.1___ If I try to change due dates for all the tasks on a given day by tapping in the the box to the right of a task, and then tap on the icons which allows me to select all tasks, when I select change due I do not get a date picker (app just hangs) * ___FIXED IN 5.2___ switching views - If I select a future date in month view, then tap on focus, when I tap back on month view the calendar no longer shows the day that I was looking at * ___FIXED IN 5.2___ Today Widget - event title sometimes is overlaid over text of next event and thus not readable ### iOS PERFORMANCE ISSUES * ___FIXED IN 5.1___ app crashes frequently * ___FIXED IN 5.3___ app is slow to load - on my iPhone 5s, if the app is not open, then the time it takes from tapping on app icon until the calendar is populated with event details when in month view is much slower (20 seconds) than v4.x (8 seconds); slight improvement with 5.2, but still takes too long (12 seconds); start-up time in 5.3 (6 seconds) is now faster than 4.x

It's certainly full-featured. The month view is awesome! Still a bit buggy.
  • Preliminarily Very Disappointed

I have been a loyal user of pocket informant for a number of years, across several versions. As such, I was willing to pay the annual fee for the bundle, including version five, and the synch service. The website does not easily allow for the consumer to purchase synch service. As such, I purchased the app, and attempted to log on using my newly created account via the website. The app will not allow me to login; this is not a data entry issue, as was suggested by customer support service-I am quite savvy in this regard. I created a strong password, and the customer service representative suggested that I send them my username and password to verify. This is probably the first time I've ever been asked for my password directly via messaging service from customer support. While dealing with Alex Kec was very professional in the past, this entire experience makes me wonder whether the user experience will remain acceptable with this platform going forward. I still have not received any response once I suggested that it was atypical that I supply my password via messaging to the customer support representative.
  • One Handed Challenge

9/18/2017 Update: Any update on when being able to move the Smartbar to the left is going to happen? 7/21/2017 Update: Still no way to move the SmartBar so the app can be used while holding the phone in the left hand. 12/1/2016 Update: Accessing the SmartBar view options one handed, is very hard to do while holding my iPhone 6s Plus in my left hand. So much so, I have gone back to version 4.x. I hope they update the app with a user option to move the SmartBar to the left of the screen. Please, please, please, do this. ____________________________ Good start to a refresh of what has been my goto Calendar App for years. Access to the calendar views via the SmartBar is a serious challenge if you use the phone, 6s Plus in my case, in your left hand. It is almost impossible to use the app one handed. I don't mind paying for the upgrade but it is almost unusable for me because of this reason.

It's all in the details. Love everything in one app. I use it for bill reminders, overdue, check list, events, tasks, etc, etc. colorful. There are still a few little issues.. like the weather sometimes works sometimes not.. but all in all everything I need in one app. Still learning all the features.
  • Junk - Great concepts but poor execution!

    By FGCook
Junk - it is so slow to refresh and unreliable! No documentation just excuses for not having it. Really wanted the features it promotes but can't trust it!
  • Best organizational app ever

    By Jdmorga63
Very flexible to meet your personal and work needs. The ability to prioritize tasks is the very best feature for me. Being able to put what is most important item at the top and everything below it in an order of importance has been the greatest assistance to keep me on track. Also able to categorize tasks so I am able to delegate tasks in order of importance as well
  • Overpriced, lacking basic functionality

    By ras68
I was a loyal PI user for 8 years, but how can you charge $25 when you don't have a truly useful Apple Watch complication? I want to see my tasks in the complication and I need to be able to mark them complete from my watch. Also no option to snooze for a day. I can get this functionality with other free apps, why is this missing in a paid app? I really want Informant to work for me, but it's just not there:(
