  • Disastrous, Confusing, Infuriating UI change

    1

The new NYT UI is a disaster. There is no clear separation between news, opinion, investigative, and soft articles. They’ve abandoned “the front page” — an iconic UI that has been universally understood for more than a century — for something with the editorial clarity of Yahoo News. This is a UX that was clearly designed for “engagement” — random clicking and endless scrolling — rather than enlightenment and information. It is terrible.
  • Fall 2017 Update a Step Backwards

Some top story and editorial articles don't even load. Just white space. I liked the previous format better. Didn't anyone test this version before its release?

  • Good app is now a battery killer

The app used to be solid and something I used almost every day. Sometime over the last few months it became a huge battery drain on my iPhone 6s Plus. The latest version is the same way. Within seconds of opening it my battery starts draining - 10% or so in less than a minute and it keeps going. It's the only app that does it. The very similar WSJ app, for example, is totally fine - takes over 10 mins of reading for the battery to go down 1%. Unfortunately this issue makes the NYT app completely unusable for me. Please fix!!
  • Absolute Disaster

Frankly, an app that crashes on launch deserves negative stars. I use the NyTimes as my browser homepage on all my machines. I depend on the Times. But I also own an older iPad that Apple refuses to upgrade beyond IOS 9. As a result, my Times app is now useless. I am an IT software professional. I realize your developers want to take advantage of iOS updates, but to unceremoniously abandon your subscribers is a huge disservice, nay, an insult. I find it unfathomable that you could not find a way to achieve backwards compatibility, even if some functionality was limited. I am now forced to use Safari to access the NYTimes website. As a result, your investment in an updated app is a complete throwaway, as far as I am concerned.
  • Crashes and doesn't upload fast enough as the old one

It's been very disappointing, and I regret letting go of the old app as it worked flawlessly. This one takes tremendous amount of time to upload. Most of the time, I run out of patience and read my paper online. It also crashes a lot. I hope this is fixable.

Go back to old layout and work on restoring saved articles!
  • Broken - crashes at startup on my iPad 3

The older version was fine. The new version crashes at startup on my iPad3 (iOS 9.3.5). Looks like I won't be making use of my electronic Times subscription so much.
  • Horrible

Doesn't work on my old ipad. I'm paying for a subscription that I can't read. I need my daily Times fix!
  • Unusable.

Fire the developer who created this mess and roll back to the previous version. App will not launch. Yes, my iOS is up to date, yes I have restarted the device, and yes I have deleted and reinstalled the app. Your developer should have caught this in testing. I'm calling customer care for a refund of this months subscription, not for the money, but to place this issue on management's radar.
