Skype for iPhone App Description

The Skype you know and love has an all-new design, supercharged with a ton of new features and new ways to stay connected with the people you care about most. What can I do with Skype? • Messaging made awesome: More than just text. Send photos, videos, voice messages, emoticons, Mojis and more. You can also respond to any message from your contacts with reactions. • Great for groups: Add your favorite people and start chatting. Use groups to plan together, play together, for staying in touch or just for hanging out. • Call everyone - Skype, mobiles and landlines: Free* video and voice calls make it easier to stay connected with friends and family. You’ll also enjoy low calling rates to mobiles and landlines worldwide with Skype.  • Never miss a moment with quick capture: Quickly swipe to capture photos and videos. Make them your own by adding emoticons, stickers and annotations. • Share Highlights: Keep others updated with Highlights from your day. React to any highlights with awesome emoticons or send a private message about that highlight. Your highlights only stay visible for 7 days to your followers. *Skype to Skype calls are free. Operator data charges may apply. We recommend using an unlimited data plan or WiFi connection. Upgrading to the new Skype may result in the deletion of content from older conversations. To save photos and videos that were previously sent or received in an older version of Skype, save that content to your camera roll/photo gallery before upgrading to the new Skype.

App Reviews

  • I love this app

    By Tara - Sarah
I have business meetings abroad all times of the day. It seems that the app works better than the regular website sometimes. Although there are some days where connection is not always perfect, if the video is not clear I switch to voice. Seems to always work better connected to WiFi but I’ve had decent conversations driving on the highway. Grateful for this amazing technology.
  • Thanks Microsoft

Limitless bureaucracy to log back in. Won’t simply upload my old contacts and tries to make you load your entire phone book. Requires tons of personal info now. Just ended up deleting it. Will use ANYTHING else going forward
  • Slack, zoomus are way better than Skype

    By SillyPhone
Just cannot imagine that something as old as Skype turned out to be so difficult to use. If you need to Google to use some of its basic functionality, it's useless as a crap. Having used Skype a few times(reluctantly), I am still not sure what my Skype id is and I struggled every time to figure it out. Other products like and Slack did a job way better than this crap. And it's adding some features like Snap, but hey wth am I gonna use it if I already have Snap??? So, if you don't have a UX team yet, get one first. If you have, just get another one!

  • Wish I didn't update

Updated 11/22/17 Well it gets worse and worse. Now Skype shows new messages when there are no new messages. Uninstalling and going slack or Discord. Worst communication app period! And to the Skype employee who claimed that Skype business is the answer to anyone who is not 12 and doesn’t use Skype to make, receive calls and also text coworkers and friends understand that this turned into a bait and switch. Skype was great as a chat and voice application and then it turned into a horribly designed forceful “fun” “added value” app that make using the app give you a headache because of the psychedelic use of colors. There is a reason that this update has so many complaints. And maybe you are right this app isn’t designed for people who chat, make voice and video calls but is designed with unavoidable “fun” features and bright colors and noises to attract infants. I guess if you want to chat, make calls and video calls you definitely want to use some other service. But if you want to accidentally send pictures you do not intend to and have no history of seizures from the most obnoxious use of colors and icons, then this app is for you.
  • Confusing interface

WILL NOT LET ME SIGN IN!!!!! I have the app on my computer and it works fine but the moment I get the app on my iPod Touch it won’t let me sign in! It keeps saying... “Unable to sign in, Please check your internet connection and try again.” My internet is great and the app and my iPod are updated to their newest versions! HELP.
  • Skype Used to be great. Ruined with last updates

    By Nathan Smith
UPDATE: even after MULTIPLE updates, there is still no 3-D touch with Skype, something they TOOK AWAY when they came out with the new version. (pressing down on the icon used to bring up the keypad, last number dialed, etc.) UNBELIEVABLE!!! I'm an American living in Italy, so I use this app all the time to talk to family, friends, and businesses in the United States. I HAVE A PAID SUBSCRIPTION!!! OK, I'm interrupting my former review to tell you what's wrong with the new app. They tried to make it "pretty" but they took away two very important features. I use Skype to make phone calls. I don't need to have pretty messaging and fun emoticons. The former Skype used to have 3D Touch functionality. You could press on the icon and bring up immediately the dial pad. They took this away completely. Also, with the former version, if you clicked on the dial pad, and then on the tiny phonebook in the upper right corner, it would bring up the Apple contact list. Many of my friends have a mobile number, a home number and a work number. You could use the Apple contact list to direct dial anybody in your phone. The new version wants to import your contacts, which I let it do, but now I have three entries for each person who has three phone numbers, and they're not labeled. It's a mess. Just put back the 3D Touch and Apple contact list and I'll change my review back to five stars. Also, I tell people that will be visiting Europe to sign up for a United States subscription for $2.99 a month BEFORE they leave the U.S. This way they can make UNLIMITED phone calls back to family and friends in the United States while they are on vacation when on Wi-Fi. Also, on my iPhone, if I bring up the dial pad, and then touch the tiny little book icon in the upper right, it brings up my entire iPhone contact list and I can make phone calls just like I would using my iPhone. Super convenient!
  • New design is poor

    By Izj6
update2: was forced to update after an iOS reinstall to fix wifi issues. The new skype shows 3 options from the home views, 2 of which are useless to me: "highlights" and "capture". The one-click button to check what contacts are available is gone. Same for quick dial. These simple issues make the new app UI less functional than it was before. Therefore I have switched to other apps to communicate with most people except elderly relatives. I can recommend Signal as a good alternative. Thanks to the reviewers for ensuring that this version at least won't force me to share all my phone contacts. I don't want to promote the use of this app. Microsoft devs, be sensible and revert to the original version of skype. update1: still on old version. Thank you reviewers, it is very helpful to know which essential features are missing or broken in the latest release. It is also good to know there are pretty decent alternatives. skipped past 3 updates... thanks to all the reviewers. Happy with old skype. If only we could swipe aside an update alert to avoid updating an app accidentally!?
  • Horrible international call feature

    By Deepakcs
App is completely buggy and unreliable. After adding 4.99$ credit and monthly subscription , still cannot call phone number and there is no customer support Update: it is much better in recent days. Haven't had call issues lately.
