Meetup App Description

Meetup brings people together in thousands of cities to do more of what they want to do in life. It is organized around one simple idea: when we get together and do the things that matter to us, we’re at our best. And that’s what Meetup does. It brings people together to do, explore, teach and learn. For example, people run marathons, thanks to running Meetups. They write, thanks to writing Meetups. They change their careers, thanks to career Meetups. Because at Meetups, people welcome each other. They talk, help, mentor, and support each other – all in pursuit of achieving their life goals. Featured by Apple in “Best New Apps” and “Great Free Apps” Some popular Meetups include: Tech Meetup groups Moms Meetup groups Dads Meetup groups Fitness Meetup groups Hiking Meetup groups Career and Networking Meetup groups Support Meetup groups Book Club Meetup groups Photography Meetup groups New in Town Meetup groups Social Meetup groups Dog Meetup groups Language Meetup groups and 1,000s more Subscription plans: Want to start a new Meetup and become an organizer? It won’t even let me log in. I even tried to make a new account and it STILL wouldn’t let me log in. I deleted it. Just use your phone browser.
  • We are PAYING for this??

Thank you to theinternetpatrol.com for publishing a helpful reference for how to actually use features of the website. If anyone wants to access their calendar feature again, go to this website since meetup customer service will give you a scripted response. How a social media website can be so unsocial is beyond me. Thank you to sitejabber.com for a place outside of the App Store for all of us to give Meetup bad reviews. Sitejabber.com gives Meetup 1.5 stars and the App Store gives 2.3 stars. I think one thing is certain: we want things changed back. My group renews in June. We will be gone if things don’t improve drastically before then. The interface on both the app and website are clunky, confusing and beyond dreadful. I have a group of over 5 years and 60+ paying members and I have never received so many complaints of people not being able to open the app, find simple features, use the calendar, and in general navigate the app. We’ve begun using Facebook to plan our events because of the amount of people having issues with both the app and website. I’m over this! It’s been a year of constant issue after issue with no collective response from Meetup that they’re trying to fix it. We might get responses on these reviews or after days waiting on customer service, but it’s time for Meetup to address their slow response to the last year of terrible update complaints.
  • Used to be a great app/network

I have been an organizer for five years. Every update to the app as well as website has removed great features. Please give organizers back the tools we had that helped us create great Meetup groups. Every improvement got worse. I won't be bothered with contacting support, I know you've received hundreds if not thousands of emails detailing the issues. So what gives?
  • Unable to Receive Notifications

Regardless of my notification settings (both on iOS and Android, and in my account), I’m never able to get push notifications from the app with the exception of about once a month, when they all come in a giant bundle all at once.
  • Terrible service

I downloaded the app and got a Meetup blue screen that would not open. As an Organizer who pays hefty dues to Meetup, this shows me that they are quickly becoming obsolete and passé. This is sad for a company that once did everything well. We (don’t) Work is giving Meetup a slow death.
  • Serves a great purpose

Connecting people who are interested in the same things is a wonderful service. Please stop changing the program so often. Makes it harder for those who have disabilities or are not as technically savvy as your tech-ies.

In my group we are very unhappy with the new ap software. The original was much better and more intuitive. We are now holding clasess for our members so they can learn the new one since we are likely stuck with it. I always tell members to use their computer, not their cellphone, when accessing the site. It 's works better. A separate ap whould be used on the phone rather then trying to have one work on both devices. Apparently there are still bugs in the new system but for how long? Meet Up itself great if you can live with their software.
  • Awesome for meeting new people

Meetup has been a positive force in my life. I’ve used this app every week to find nearby language exchange events going on and to meet new people. The app makes it easy to do this when I’m away from my computer. It is easy to use and helps me get in touch with the people I’ve met at the event. One comment I have is I would like to see a way to get back to the Meetup that is referenced in a chat message when someone reaches out from a Meetup, and to be able to group direct message people I’ve met and get together again. Overall, it’s a great app. Thanks!
  • Totally Useless and keeps getting worse

Ever since Meetup was sold it has gotten worse with every so called update. If you are an administrator you’ve mostly lost control of your meetup. The browser is no better as they have forgotten the 40% of those that do not use a pad or phone. It’s time to find a replacement because Meetup has lost focus of who they are working for.
  • So many features missing from the previous version

Whatever update: It's clear that Meetup still don't care about their users. I'm baffled that this app is the app of the day on the app store given the unilateral, universal, unanimous negative reviews it's gotten since the bizarroland redesign. There's got to be a lot of money involved in this redesign; that's the only reason the team could fathomably be so adamant about refusing to go back to what their users so vocally and so clearly actually *want*. 7.0.1 update: still the same awful app, still the same 1 star review wishing I could give it zero. Meetup do not care. I have purchased some learning material for Swift and aim to build my own Meetup app. 6.0.1 update: still the same awful app, still the same 1 star review wishing I could give it zero. Yet another app redesign that removed a bunch of useful features in the name of "simplicity". My first experience with the app was seeing a completely blank main page, bereft of meetups, meetup groups, and any other useful information. I should've known this was a sign that the app, if it ever started working, would be trash. I remained hopeful, despite knowing better. I was mistaken. I can't view past meetups. It's harder to get to the list of upcoming meetups. I can't even set a calendar event to remind me to RSVP--one of my favorite features from the old version. Why is this no longer the focus of the app's main page? This is what I care about. The awful side-scrolling list of meetup groups doesn't make sense on a narrow phone screen. The focus on finding new meetups on mobile doesn't make sense. The mobile interface is minimal and constrained, providing less information than the web version (either mobile or even desktop) and making the information it does present more difficult to consume than it should be. I can't view past meetups, which means I certainly can't manage attendance or comment on meetups I've attended. It seems like the focus of this redesign is on finding new meetups (something I feel should happen on the web, not mobile). The combined notifications / messages page won't scale for users who have a lot of messages and notifications. Overall, the new app is almost useless and at very least really painful to use compared to the previous interface--which, if nothing else, I'd learned how to use effectively. This new UI feels like it was designed by a newly hired team, a group of people who wanted to whitewash (literally; lots of white in this version, very little of meetup's signature red) over the previous design just for the sake of it. I cannot, at all, understand who the target audience is for this version given its focus on new group discovery despite how awful new group discovery is on mobile. This version is absolutely deplorable, a disaster of bad and poorly-guided design. If all of the above wasn't damning enough, there's no obvious way to open a support ticket in the app: I had to dig through the poorly organized help documentation to find the right document to file a bug report for the problem I described at the start of this review.
