App Reviews

  • I won't renew this app

You have to guess which person the app is asking for - between formal and informal - and a lot of times the correct answer is ruled incorrect, even though the given answer and the correction are identical.

I love this app. So easy and informative. You can definitely learn
  • Perfect to move beyond intermediate Spanish

    By Kivacricket
I can speak Spanish conversationally and in certain situations, can appear almost fluent, depending on the tenses used. But this app is helping me move beyond the tenses I'm already easy with and moving me past my stuck points! It's fun. I'm addicted to it!
  • Good Spanish learning program

    By Dlswa
Two areas Babbel could improve: an option for Latin American Spanish. The program requires learners to learn the vosotros form not used in many Western Hemisphere countries. That slows the learner’s progress to fluency, adds co fusion, and is downright annoying. Second, some optional drill and practice type exercises on verb tenses, pronouns, prepositions, and the like would help learners sort out new content. A page where pronouns are listed with their translation, for example, would also be helpful
  • 5 Stars w/ paid app

    By BlaineH
This is a great app for a number of reasons. 1. It helps you to learn a language in a practical means. 2. It keeps you engaged. 3. It may cost, but once you sign up (for free) there are always deals and discounts. That’s how I came to use it. I bought 6 months for $30. I paid a lot more for Rosetta Stone a few years back and I already feel I’m getting better use.
  • Great App

I love this app. It’s easy to use and fun. I’m starting to converse with people in Spanish restaurants which is interesting.
  • Great app for smart and fast learning.

    By jcb1000
I would give it a 5 stars if there was the possibility to increase the font size. I do not see well, so in addition to my reading glasses, I have to use a magnifier to read the content that is too small and too pale. I hope that the developer will add the font increase feature soon.
  • This app is garbage

    By bpetruzzo
Update: I have been using this app for 131 days, every day, and I really want you to know this app is much worse than even my original review made it out to be. Even with diligence and discipline in using the app, it will teach you almost nothing. I’m not being hyperbolic. I learned a few simple things early on, and have since learned nothing. I’m spending more time just trying to figure out the generic ‘language concept’ they’re talking about, and barely internalizing the Spanish part of it at all. I really cannot stress enough how bad this app is at teaching. I have no idea how it ended up with this many 5 star ratings. After using this app for 30 days, I am downgrading it form two stars to one. This app is just an interactive textbook, and it is not really any better at helping you learn than a textbook is. The ultimate weakness of this app is that it doesn't offer any study aid, such as simple vocabulary practice. Each lesson is about 10 minutes, and each one introduces new vocabulary, and then expects you to remember it in all of its nuance. The only way to 'study' with this app is to take the lesson again, in which you get maybe three questions to practice what you didn't learn. The 'study' they offer isn't endless. It gives you like, three or four quiz questions for each lesson and that's it. And if you use the 'flash cards' study option, the answer is literally always 'true'. They're supremely unhelpful. And, lessons themselves are not dynamic at all. They're always identical. So while you can retake them, before long you're just memorizing the answers, not learning the information. There are also a lot of questions that cannot be answered except by guessing. For example, in a lesson for matching, they want you to match the/the with la/le without any information about what the 'the' is referring to. So you just have to guess. The images they pair with words often don't have enough information to show what they're trying to teach, for example, a photo of a dog, without a gender declaration, does not help the student distinguish the appropriate gender pronoun. Ultimately, this app is just a cash grab. They recorded some voices, they transferred some pages from your highshool text book and they called it an improved study tool. But it's not. If you actually want to start learning and making progress, you have to do all the normal legwork a textbook would require. The app takes advantage of none of the things a smart device can do to improve a learning experience. I regret paying for the yearly subscription, and I'll probably switch to Duolingo, because at least that app is entertaining and has endless study tools. You should save your money.
  • A good idea, a good approach but...

    By Klpetrak
...there are too many “bugs” in the application to make it run smoothly. An example - the application asks me if I want to continue a lesson where I finished, I say “Yes” but the lesson does not restart at all.
  • Doesn’t teach Spanish

    By Tesman2
If you know Spanish already this could a good app, but if you are trying to learn it DON’T waste your money. If you do not have a good knowledge of Spanish this app is no good.
