  • Needs improvement

Learning a language is all about repetition. You listen to the same materials many times and vocabularies or sentences will eventually stay in your brain. I am disappointed at this app because it does not have the capability of automatic repetition. As a learner, I have to click on each vocabulary on the vocabulary page and each sentence on the dialogue page numerous time if I wish to listen to the same word or same sentence many times. This is extremely painful when I am working out at the gym and unable to click repetitively on each word and each sentence. I have been complaining about this issue a couple of times during the past two years, but I don’t see improvement.

I have this app on my iPhone it works fine. Now I have a kindle Fire, downloaded the app but no matter what I do I just couldn’t log into my account. Your tech help sent me my log in n new password twice still couldn’t log in. Very frustrating. I even downloaded the app then pick a different language n create a new account but kept getting a message about downloading problem or check my internet connection. Maybe this app will s not made for Kindle Fire?

I’ve had basic subscriptions, and just switched to premium. The Japanese I tried for a month in basic, and found it very helpful during a trip there, but I recommend studying several months in advance. I also used Cantonese in basic, and mainly listened to the absolute beginner and lower beginner classes. Absolute beginner was slower-paced and the classes were more natural-sounding. Lower beginner sounds more like a poor quality read back, but is still informative. It’s also faster-paced with more vocabulary. I will now be trying premium for Japanese, Cantonese, and Mandarin. It drove me nuts how they kept changing the sale percentage during Black Friday weekend though! I know that’s how a lot of businesses operate, but I hate it.

After many frustrating attempts to learn Korean, I've finally found something that seems to be working. It's just been three days but I've progressed more than with the boring workbooks and Korean language textbooks that I've tried. I like that the lessons are brief and interesting, that the dialogue is repeated several times and explained, that you can read along with the lesson transcript and see the dialogue both in English and Korean. I've noticed that, even after a few days, I'm much quicker at reading Korean. It no longer looks like a cryptogram. I always read the lesson expansion to pick up more vocabulary words and useful phrases. I just wish I could copy and paste new words and phrases into a personal log so that I can review these quickly. I have to write new words, phrases, my own pneumonics, pronunciation tips, etc.--in a spiral notebook so that I can quickly review them again and again. It's time consuming to write things out by hand--and I can't take the notebook with me all the time. You can't highlight in or bookmark the lesson transcripts. Sure, there is an option in this app to add vocabulary words to a file but sometimes an unfamiliar word or phrase is not in the vocabulary list, so you can't select it. I'd give this 5 stars if there was a way you could copy and paste items that you want to quickly refer back to--a personalized study guide/quick reference.
