FluentU - Learn languages App Description

Tired of boring textbooks? FluentU brings language learning to life with real-world videos! Learn Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Japanese, English, Russian, Korean, and Italian with FluentU. "Great app. To my knowledge the best on the market. You created something unique and new!" - Felix Wedel "It is more helpful than any other tool I've used. I had been using podcasts before and trying to make flashcards, and that worked pretty well. But, it ended up that I was spending more time making the flashcards than studying. FluentU really solves this." - David Brown "FluentU has quickly become one of my favorite language-learning tools. Great job on an aesthetically pleasing app and an incredibly functional one." - Justin Price "This concept in FluentU is amazing. It's such a great way to help you understand a spoken language and the way you break it down is amazing." - Demi Pradolin "This app is so fun and useful - the best Chinese language learning app I've ever used." - Richard Jun Learn a language with music videos, movie trailers, news, and inspiring talks. Can’t login the app, can’t find account settings on the website to cancel my subscription.. please don’t charge me
  • Subscription Renewal is Sketchy

    By CO Nomad
I received an email from FluentU upon renewal of my subscription that my subscription renewed as ‘free’, then I get charged $250 for the annual subscription. Upon receipt of my email that I did not want to renew and attaching their message about the free subscription, FluentU writes ‘sorry, that email was sent in error.’ That’s not the way to run a business, nor build a loyal customer base.

Just a marvellous app, however, it is still far too expensive for me (but I'm a cheap bastard). If you can afford it, DO IT.
  • Good idea, reasonably well considered material, awful app

The app does NOT respect the Apple setting to disallow asking for app reviews. It nags me constantly to review, so... here you guys go. The robot voice always mispronounces は when it is used as a particle to join other words. The streak display is messed up. It always shows tomorrow as part of the streak, and today as not part of the streak. Edit: No longer launches at all since updating to latest version.
  • Can’t Open App

The latest update (as of 6 January 2018) doesn’t work AT ALL. The app freezes on the Welcome/Insignia screen then crashes and closes. Too bad because I love(d) this app. Please fix this. Thank you.

So I’m an English speaker and I’m trying to learn Korean using this app but the titles of all the videos are in Korean which I don’t understand is there a way to fix this?
  • Easy way to learn through repitition

I find that learning Spanish through this program is a lot easier than say Rosetta Stone or the class room, which I’ve tried both. This program gives you marks to hit each day and continually reviews what you’ve already gone over to make sure you have it.
  • Great assistance when learning a language

I use this app throughout my day when I have any down time and so far I really enjoy it.
  • Great app

I enjoy both the normal web version of FluentU as well as this app. I am using FluentU to learn Mandarin. I have no issues with progress syncing between the two, and the video clips work well in the quizzes. FluentU will make sure users work with pinyin and hanzi, forcing you to do repetition with characters in order to memorize them.
  • Good idea, terrible execution

FluentU is a really great idea: learning a language through videos of native speakers on a wide range of topics. Learning words in context and working on word order is really useful. Unfortunately, though, this app misses one of the great selling points of the method: instead of interacting with the videos, you get a robot voice that often mispronounces phrases (at least in French). The translations are often quite off. I really like FluentU, and I appreciate that they’re constantly making improvements — if they could just get the app to the same functionality as the website (or close), it would be fantastic.
