App Reviews

  • Love the format of the iPad App

    By Seekonk MA
I am a long-time subscriber and regular reader of the N.Y. Times online edition, as well as other online media. I recently subscribed to The Washington Post to support great journalism which is vital to our democracy. I love the format of the iPad app. It is very readable—I love the horizontal scrolling through the major stories. It is nice having the traditional WP app as an alternative, but I now find myself starting my daily news consumption with the WP iPad app.
  • Worst news navigation ever

    By EmptyDog
Yes I know that paper is dead but navigation will never die. And this navigation is horrible. I think it was designed for people who would never complain. I can’t imagine the intellect that would actually benefit from information presented in this infantile way.
  • Failure to deliver

    By advo121
I have been in contact with both Apple and the Washington Post regarding my subscription and neither has responded. The subscription that I am paying for is not being provided. And since neither company cares about delivering what they are collecting my money for I guess they deserve a review.
  • The search function is a joke!

    By jollyturns
It’s ridiculously difficult to be properly logged in the Washington Post on all the plethora of news apps on the iPhone. As a result I read part of a story in one app, then switch to the Washington Post app - where I’m logged in, and try to find the story. The problem is the search function doesn’t work! It shows me 2-3 months old stories which have nothing to do with what I’m searching for. The app itself shows only a limited number of stories, far fewer than the ones I find online through the news apps on my phone (Google News, the Apple News, Flipboard etc.) Come on Washington Post, please do something about it!
  • Distracting and Restrictive App Design

    By Truth79775
The zooming of content as you scroll may be a neat trick for a developer to show off but it makes it difficult for the user to visually process the content when trying to quickly browse articles. The app doesn’t provide local news and does not match the content provided on the main site. The comments section has been removed from each article. What about the Real Estate section? Overall, this app is limiting and frustrating for the user and is not a viable alternative to the online site. If the Post would spend development time providing MORE content for their app rather than LESS then I’m sure it would be far more successful.
  • Was once my favorite

    By LeftinSC
For the last two days, the app insists I enter my password. When entered it freezes. After reloading, it accepted the password, it seemed, but then continued to ask for it. This happens after about 4 articles are read. IPad problem? My iPad is two weeks old, latest and best. App problem? If you contact Post about app performance they will say 'delete and reload'. Turn it on, turn it off syndrome. Other post apps work fine so I still get my morning paper.
  • Single tap annoying

    By Le mechant
When reading a selected article a single accidental tap reverts it rot small type. To return to large type you have to go back to the heading. Very annoying.
  • Will take $$ but won’t say I have an account.

Been paying for WP since July, keep getting charged by iTunes. Still only allows me to open 2-3 articles a month. Complained to iTunes, says they are only a “storefront” And I must contact WP... and they only answer the phone when I’m at work during the week. So it’s the weekend, I read a bit then forget about it till I’m charged again and denied access to articles again. Well played WP. You got my money. Why should you care. Update. Got a response Jan 30 and emailed them back my charges, cc info, etc. still not able to read the articles, still being charged. No help.. Feb 26.
  • App crashes

    By Cdogrein
Used to work great and I loved this app. Last month or so it hangs daily and crashes. Only fix is a restart. I submitted a support ticket. Pending response. Till then. I am using the Classic WaPo app.
  • What a piece of crap

    By ReidiPad
I’ve enjoyed the Washington Post app in the past. I am totally unable to open the current “updated” version. Have tried deleting and reinstalling with no success. I’m a paid subscriber so they owe me money that I will reinvest in a NYT subscription.
