Do not fall for Negative Reviews
By RoboBoy SF
**Spend the $$$ & get an AppleTV, no need to Chromecast or AirPlay, this is a ATV app. Streams direct to the ATV, freeing up your devices to look up actors, etc.
**App is great, stable, remembers where I left off in _every_ show _simultaneously_, works with Apple’s TV-On-Device app.
**The amount of content _alone_ is staggering. I’ve been watching happily for a full year on a fixed SSDI income.
**Zero Commercials (very rare plugs for newly released HBO content).
For those who don’t mind a more thorough review:
First, if you are like me, you’ve been trying to drop TV providers for a while now because commercials or advertisements have taken over. Its ridiculous to try and watch television with 16 to 26 minutes of commercials per 24 minutes of actual programming. I cannot deal with it, and changing the channel has become a non-solution.
About a year ago, when Westworld first began, I decided to take the dive and go with a subscription to HBO NOW. I had a bit of confusion between the GO app and the NOW app, but checking their main website I figured it out in less than a few minutes. At first, I only watched Westworld, so coming back into the app, I didn’t really think much about the work that would go into keeping my place while I went into other apps, and watched other programs.
Its ben a year. I’ve re-watched a bunch of Six Feet Under, got hooked on True Blood, and i have watched all currently delivered seven seasons of Game of Thrones, as well as having watched or rewatched a bunch of great movies. The app remembers my place in every episode, every movie, everywhere.
The amount of content available for the flat monthly fee is unbelievable. Every episode of every series ever produced, even the ‘this only ran for a single season’ ones, obscure shows, Latino-focused content, late night content, comedy shows from days of old, when you start really diving deep into what’s here, you’ll be floored.
Other than the (very) _occasional_ plug for another, newly released show like “The Deuce”? Not. A. Single. Commercial. Not even an ask to tell my friends about it, or “Like Us On Social Media” Not. One.
I don’t work for HBO, or Apple, in fact I don’t work at all. I was looking for a way to effectively budget for the massive amounts of entertainment I consume. There’s no reason for me to lie here. I’m 49, disabled and live with my mother. Huge Star Wars fan. Wearing the shirt right now. You know the type. I’m on a fixed income, and when I run out of money for buying or renting the brand new movies in iTues, I depend upon this app to deliver the daily near-full-time entertainment I use to keep myself busy, keep myself mentally engaged, discovering new actors, new stories, new things to think about. I hope this helps you make a good decision. Besides, I don’t get all the hype, its actually friggin cheap, and if you can’t afford it one month? Turn it off for that one month, then turn it back on.
Right? Am I missing something?
Poor user interface
1. Parental controls are on/off with no override for single watching.
2. Can't add a series or season to watchlist
Can't turn off auto play for series
If you are not going to allow the user to control auto play, then it shouldn't be a feature.
Hard to reach customer service
I got this on my Samsung TV and it’s been a hell to get them to cancel my free trial. I’ve sent them at least two emails already and it’s like they don’t even care. Such a bad customer service from them.
Surprised it's so bad
I expected a lot more from HBO.
App is glitchy, often quitting when moving around the UI. Buffering often, when all my other apps like Hulu, Netflix work smoothly, and I have a very fast connection.
Also, why are shows delayed? Real Time, John Oliver etc are delayed hours. Why? Just today, Saturday 8/19 Real Time episode from last night still isn't available, and what shows in the app is an incomplete version starting halfway through.
And why, oh why, is something as simple as a ‘season pass’ not enabled? It’s 2017; most other streaming apps let you set a favorite series and tracks your episodes watched, even partial episodes. The developers need to look at Hulu or Netflix as examples of how to write a proper streaming app.
Very poor, and damaging to HBO's reputation.

I never write reviews. But my God this app is awful. I love HBO which is why I will continue to use it to stream on my chrome cast but it is such a frustrating app. Not user friendly at all. My biggest issue is that I takes forever to load and it doesn't automatically play next episodes. I was reading other reviews an they basically touch on everything I feel. This app needs a good and necessary update soon!

I tried getting it to play video 5-7 times and not one time was it working, it's a very unreliable and way over priced app
Terrible streaming quality
Not even through my free trial and I cant get through one session without it crashing. Happens on all of my devices.
POS - canceling subscription.

Had MAJOR playability issues in August on both web interface on my Mac and my iPad. The "official" troubleshooting page said to delete and reinstall the iPad app. Deleting went just fine. Have been unable to re-download the app for a month - the progress circle s l o w l yyyy fills, then nothing for a few minutes, then I get an error message (twice!) that the app "can't be downloaded right now – try again later."
Meanwhile, the web interface on my Mac has become unwatchable due to constantly buffering and regular "plug-in crash" problems. Have tried all four different browsers on my machine – no improvement. Consensus seems to be that it's a problem with using the [outdated] Flash technology.
Most galling, the helpline lead you through a multi step menu and then loops back to directions to go to the [useless, uninformative, incomplete] online troubleshooting help.
Don't. Waste. Your. Money
Awful expensive and not updated
As expensive as this app is, it should perform extremely well but the movies, shows constantly pause and stall. It is not worth the money at all for the monthly price charged.
